Disaster Services
During the fiscal year just passed, we responded to 70 local disaster incidents and assisted 231 people with close to $34,500 in direct aid (food, clothing, shelter, medicine, and household items). We helped hundreds of families with shelter, food and clothing after their homes burned. We also provided mass care canteen services to 640 first responders on disaster scenes ranging from search and rescue to fires.

Red Cross Classes
We trained more than 14,000 people last year. We now have 200 instructors and both those numbers represent a substantial increase from last year.
We taught Adult CPR/AED in several new school districts this year. Thanks to a grant from ADM Corporation, we trained and certified 4,428 students and teachers in Red Cross skills.

Flooding Relief
In June we set up flood relief operations in Farmer City, Decatur and Bethany, where we opened shelters and provided disaster relief to affected residents.  We served more than 200 meals to affected families and responders, distributed clean-up kits, and provided financial assistance with minor home repairs.  More than 40 volunteers and staff worked on local flooding relief.

Fully Involved in our Communities
We continued to be active in the community’s emergency planning, participating in the Special Needs Assessment Panel, the Joint Information Center Committee, Pandemic Flu Committee, Terrorism Task Force, and the Macon County Mental Health Board Disaster Council. We are also becoming actively involved with the Coalition of Neighborhood Organizations and the Nelson Park Neighborhood Group.
Last fiscal year we sent 22 volunteers on national disaster operations ranging from flooding in San Antonio, Texas and Fargo, North Dakota to the more recent flooding in Peru and Sheridan, Illinois.

Service to the Armed Forces
We assisted with 93 Service to Armed Forces cases during the  fiscal year. We have eight volunteers and paid staff members trained and on-call to handle SAF cases, and we are one of the few chapters in Illinois to provide 24/7 local coverage for these calls. We educated 586 military personnel and their families at the Army National Guard and Navy Reserve units regarding Red Cross emergency messaging while on deployment. We participated in pre-deployment briefings, deployment and homecoming ceremonies.

International Services
The Mid-Illinois Chapter recognizes that we are members of a global society. With affiliations to other worldwide organizations, the Red Cross helps families with international ties trace other family members separated by war or natural disasters.
The Mid-Illinois Chapter can also provide you with information on The Geneva Conventions, International Humanitarian Law, and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Classes, lectures, talks, and community outreach are available to schools, churches, businesses and community groups.
